Building new homes

Flourish Homes currently has around 4,000 homes, mainly in Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Street, Wells and surrounding villages. Our plans to build new homes in the Mendip area, and further afield in Somerset, is delivered by the Aster Group development team. Here are some of our current developments they are working on for us:

Dunstan Park, Glastonbury

There will be 56 homes built for Flourish Homes, all affordable rent on this estate. There had been an element of shared ownership properties planned for this site but the credit crunch has meant that we are scaling back on these kinds of homes as people find it hard to secure mortgages.

Sunnyside Place, Frome

We have extended the facilities at this sheltered housing scheme to provide another nine bungalows and to extend the communal room, a vital part of any sheltered housing scheme.

Singers Knoll/Randolph Road, Frome

We're planning a multi-million pound redevelopment of this part of Frome which will see the current 54 pre-cast reinforced concrete homes replaced with around 100 modern, energy efficient homes to rent and an 36-unit extra care scheme to link with Gorehedge's sheltered housing scheme. Find out more about the Singers Knoll redevelopment here.

Coleford

We are looking to build 28 new homes on land next to Goodeaves Close in Coleford, a village near Frome. The plan is to build four one-bedroomed flats, seven two-bedroomed houses, 14 three-bedroomed houses and three four-bedroomed homes over a two year period at a cost of more than £3 million on a special rural exception site. We've worked with the landowner, parish and district councils to be able to put this site forward. We've put in for planning permission for the Coleford homes which you can find here.

Beckery Cottages, Glastonbury

These 12 derelict cottages are being brought back to life after they were handed over to Flourish Homes by the South West Regional Development Agency. Mendip District Council funded the buying of the cottages which are being brought back to modern living standards. The old outhouses are being demolished and the bathrooms are being moved upstairs in the eight two-bedroomed houses and four three bedroomed homes.

Great Ostry Hostel, Shepton Mallet

We are converting this former hostel and listed building into six self-contained flats that will then be available to rent out. It will contain two two-bedroomed and four one-bedroomed flats.

Tynings Road, Street

As part of our strategy to look at our pre-cast reinforced concrete homes (PRC) we are looking at two blocks of these types of flats we own in Tynings Road. The four-flat blocks bookend this road and we are looking to knock both blocks down and replace them with 10 homes. There will be two houses and two flats on one site and six flats on the other. We'll be building a mix of one, two and three bedroomed homes, offering much needed family accommodation as well as useful homes for single people and couples.

We've now submitted our planning applications for this scheme and you'll find them on Mendip District Council's website here and here.
