Staff at Flourish Homes are holding a special dress down day to help raise funds to assist champion Boccia player Lee Hamlyn attend the European Championships in Portugal this summer.
Lee, 24, who lives in Flourish Homes sheltered accommodation in Street, suffers from cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound. However, that hasn't stopped his competitive spirit. He has been training with the England and Wales squad for two years and spends many hours down at Strode College practicing his sport.
Boccia is a game like bowls where competitors throw a ball on a specially marked out court to try and get as close as possible to a special target ball.
Lee has already won a number of major regional championships and recently beat the 5th ranked player in the world. There are not only hopes for Lee's performance at the European Championships this summer, for Lee is also well on his way to be selected for the Para-Olympic Games British team in Beijing in 2008.
Sue Gould, Flourish Homes's scheme manager at Bovemoor, said: "We are all delighted with Lee's success. He puts so much effort into his sport and we believe we could well have a future world champion here."
The residents at Bovemoor have already held a coffee morning and raised £70 towards Lee's costs to go to Portugal. Anyone who would like to help Lee in his quest for success can call Sue Gould on 01458 443824.
