Grants & community projects
Mendip Housing has a total of £130,000 in grant funding available for projects which benefit local communities and environments.

It is split into two funds:

The Community Chest Fund

A total of £40,000 is available for grants from £1,000 to £5,000. Grant applications will go to our grants committee which meets four times a year.

There is £10,000 available for small projects which need no more than £1,000. A decision on funding can usually be made within eight weeks of your application.

Applicants for the Community Chest funds do not have to be Mendip Housing tenants.

Mendip Housing funding priorities for our Community Chest fund are:

Projects of direct benefit to:

  • Tenants of Mendip Housing
  • Disabled people, people with learning disabilities and people experiencing mental distress
  • Older people and people with high support needs and carers
  • Unemployed people, people on low incomes and disadvantaged young people
  • People threatened by domesic violence
  • People from black and ethnic minority groups
  • Lesbian, gay and bisexual people
  • Any other marginalised group

Environmental Improvement Fund

This £80,000 fund is only available to Mendip Housing tenants. They can bid for money to improve their local environment and is usually awarded to specific projects that enhance local areas or help people to enjoy outside areas more.

Some examples of environmental improvements that might be funded are:

  • Landscaping or planting work
  • Improved estate lighting
  • Provision of added bin storage
  • Fencing
  • Paving
  • Security measures eg door entry systems, defensive shrubs, lighting
  • Signage
  • Parking enhancements

The areas for improvement must belong to Mendip Housing.
